Birmingham Still Fab For Flournoy!

We are now less than six months away from the most eagerly anticipated event of any British Basketball League campaign, the BBL Cup Final 2017! Two top teams will do battle here at the Barclaycard Arena, for the first piece of silverware of the 2016/17 campaign.

No one is more eager to get to the arena than Fab Flournoy.  But who is Fab Flournoy we hear you cry?!  As avid followers of the BBL will know, Flournoy is the player-coach, inspiration, and some would say, living legend, of the most dominant franchise in the history of the BBL… the Newcastle Eagles- the current holders of the BBL Cup title.

Now, we’re not ones to pledge allegiances, but Flournoy gets extra qudos for 1. Having the name ‘Fab’! and 2. ‘Cos he first started his career here in sunny B-town as part of the Birmingham Bullets...

Having landed here from the States back in 1996, the city holds special significance for the guy who has become the most successful coach in British Basketball League history!  This is where it all started for the honorary Brummie, and it’s something Flournoy will never forget:

“I love coming to Birmingham and it will always be a big part of my life and still have close friends in the city,” he tells us.

“The atmosphere of the BBL Cup Final each and every year, demonstrates what a great city it is and how much everyone loves basketball and has such a passion for the big occasion.

“Birmingham and the Barclaycard Arena is now the spiritual home of the BBL Cup and a destination that has provided some incredible moments, excitement and games down the years.”
