Film Night with Hans Zimmer

Now you know us lot at Barclaycard Arena love music, sport and all things events but did you know we’re a bunch of film nuts too?

So for an office film night we tried to compile all our fave film scores composed by Hans Zimmer – who conveniently heads to the arena next month for what is set to be an epic show. Seriously we’ve had a sneak peek and even if you think you’re not into orchestras and all that you will LOVE this, especially if you’re into movies.

Now, we can’t lie there were some arguments and the film ‘night’ has somehow turned into a film week but we’ve whittled it down to our succinct Top 16 Hans Zimmer Movie Soundtracks (catchy eh?). Basically we came to conclusion that Hans Zimmer has made some truly epic movie scores for some great movies, oh and we are rubbish at making lists.

Have a listen and enjoy! And if you think we’ve missed any let us know on twitter or facebook.

1. Thelma and Louise (1991) – A Ridley Scott classic this is the first of many times where the director teams up with Zimmer.

2. True Romance (1993) - Tony Scott, Quentin Tarantino and Zimmer what a team!

3. Cool Runnings (1993) – we’re sure you’ll agree that no movie list is complete without Cool Runnings!

4. The Lion King (1994) – Move over Elton, Hans Zimmer is the real star of the Lion King soundtrack! All together now....

5. The Thin Red Line (1997) – this near-three-hour war epic is not for the feint hearted but a classic in it’s own right it had to appear in our Hans Zimmer faves list.

6. Gladiator (2000) - For his Russell Crowe-led historical drama, Ridley Scott recruited Zimmer to score the action.

7. Black Hawk Down (2001) – Another Ridley Scott classic, great film, great score, nuff said.

8. Pirates of the Caribbean (2003) – having also worked on Muppet Treasure Island Zimmer was no stranger to the scoring music on the high seas. Working with Klaus Badelt, Zimmer went uncredited on the first movie Curse of the Black Pearl but scored the sequels.

9. The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005, 2008, 2012) – yes we know this is technically three films in the list but we couldn’t choose! The caped crusader’s cinematic rebirth saw Zimmer team up with James Newton Howard to score the first two films in the trilogy, inputting into the third too. Director Christopher Nolan went straight to Zimmer after that to make him his composer of choice.

10. The Holiday (2006) – we had to have at least one chick flick in our list and as far as they go this one isn’t so bad…and the score of course is brilliant!

11. Inception (2010) - Zimmer and Christopher Nolan teamed up again bring some magic to this mind-bending sci-fi thriller. The music has since been used in countless TV ads

12. Sherlock Holmes (2010) - Guy Ritchie's new take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's literary icon needed a soundtrack to match and Zimmer was ready, setting the tone for a high-octane Victorian London adventure with his gypsy-inspired intro.

13. Man of Steel (2013)- John Williams was always going to be a hard act to follow but Zimmer's delicate and simple theme’s slow crescendo as director Zack Snyder amped up the action just works! Goosebumps!

14. 12 Years A Slave (2013) – winning best picture at the Oscars back in 2014  this film is well worth a watch and you’ll hear some classic Zimmer in there too.

15. Interstellar (2014) - Earth has been devastated by drought and famine, and Zimmer strikes again setting the scene for this awesome movie!

16. Batman v Superman (2016) – Teaming up with Junkie XL, it’s been reported that Hans Zimmer is hanging up his super hero soundtrack cape once and for all. However this heavier, guitar laden soundtrack sets off the film – just listen to Wonder Woman’s entrance…if you’ve seen the movie you’ll know what we mean when we just say <3 <3 <3

If this has got you in the mood you can see Hans Zimmer perform live 12th April at Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham.
