Great Danes Target YONEX All England Title

The Danes have failed to triumph at the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships for almost 18 years – with Peter Gade’s historic win back in ’99 being the last…but things could be about to change!

The Danes are looking to break a duck here in Birmingham and with all of the Danish stars in great form, there’s never been a better chance in doing so. Jan O Jorgensen, Viktor Axelsen and last season’s beaten semi finalist HK Vittinghus are all currently sitting amongst the top 15 players in the world, putting them in good stead for the Championships this March!

World #2 Jorgensen admitted that winning the All England Championships is his “biggest target.” He said. “That is one title I am really looking forward to and then only think of other events”.

There may be some competition within the Danish dressing room as Jan’s compatriot, Axelsen, is also making March’s championship his priority in 2017, he said: “The first objective is always to give off my best but I repeat that winning the 2017 All England title should be my biggest target.”

All three players have admitted in the past that the success of previous great Danes, Frost and Gade, is one of the key motivators when training for big tournaments like this as they hope to one day too write their name into the badminton history books.
