Record breakers!

No strangers to breaking records our favourites the Harlem Globetrotters came out in force for Guinness World Records Day, even breaking the record for most records broken in a single day!

Just a year after setting seven official Guinness World Record titles today they broke a single-day total of nine (you heard us, NINE!) records to celebrate Guinness World Record Day!

Harlem Record Breakers

Taking their current total records since 2000 to 15, team members Big Easy Lofton, Ant Atkinson, Cheese Chisholm, and Zeus McClurkin were among the Globetrotters who set at least two records, with Ant being a part of three records.

The records were broken during the 12th annual Guinness World Records Day, a global event launched to celebrate the day the Guinness World Records book sold its 100 millionth copy.

When speaking to the team they said “We are the original trick shot artists, so it is great to reclaim our records and reestablish our dominance,” said Harlem Globetrotters star Big Easy Lofton. We have been training hard so to have a day where we push the limits and try some fun yet challenging shots, is pretty cool. I mean, how many people can say they’re a Guinness World Records title holder? We can’t wait to put smiles on people's faces as we demonstrate our skills and talents on the upcoming world tour."

Here's the deets...

  1. Longest basketball hook shot – Big Easy Lofton (72 feet, 6.25 inches)
  2. Longest basketball shot blindfolded – Ant Atkinson (73 feet, 10 inches)
  3. Most basketball 3-pointers in one minute (single ball) – Ant Atkinson and Cheese Chisholm (10 each)
  4. Furthest basketball shot made while sitting on the court – Thunder Law (58 feet, 9.25 inches)
