The Birmingham Comedy Festival has been drawing attention to the city's vibrant (and often unsung) comedy scene since 2001 when the debut festival hit the road running thanks to appearances from Peter Kay and Sean Lock in a programme of over 40 events.

Since then, the festival has grown into one of the largest independent arts festival in the region.

Alongside a vast range of new local acts, the festival has featured such A-list heavy-hitters as Peter Kay, Lee Evans, Michael McIntrye, the cast of cult TV sketch series The Fast Show, Lenny Henry, Ross Noble, John Bishop, Miranda Hart, Jimmy Carr, Alan Carr, Al Murray The Pub Landlord, Sarah Millican, Russell Brand, Jack Whitehall, Stephen Merchant, Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe, Harry Hill, Greg Davies, Joe Lycett, the legendary Ad' Fab' star Joanna Lumley and even the late Ken Dodd!

There's also been celebrations dedicated to Red Dwarf, Tony Hancock, Ealing Studios, Laurel and Hardy, Monty Python and The Goon Show (the first time a Goon Show script has been officially staged outside of the BBC, we gather!).

As for this year's festival, we'll see over 80 performances including James Acaster, The Last Leg's Josh Widdicombe, Henning Wehn, Reginald D Hunter and Comedy Central's Impractical Jokers (which takes place right here at Arena Birmingham).

Impractical Jokers follows four lifelong friends and comedians, whose hilariously outrageous hidden-camera dares and punishments have created truTV’s and Comedy Central’s longest-running and top-rated original comedies.

James "Murr" Murray, Brian "Q" Quinn, Joe Gatto and Sal Vulcano, also known as The Tenderloins, have an authentic relatability and millions of passionate fans. They have translated the television success of Impractical Jokers into an international, multi-platform and experiential franchise, including a brand new tour.

Don’t miss the Impractical Jokers' brand new The Cranjis McBasketball World Comedy Tour Starring The Tenderloins live at Arena Birmingham on Friday 11 October 2019!
