We spoke with Giarnni Regini-Moran and Birmingham's very own Joe Fraser ahead of March's HUGE event...
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR HIGHLIGHT OVER THE LAST 12-MONTHS?
GIARNNI: I think making the world championships team actually, I’ve had two years of injury to finally be back amongst the best in the world, competing against the best in the world – that was a big achievement for me
JOE: The highlight of the year? Definitely the world championships as a whole really, being part of that team that qualified for Olympic games and obviously becoming top 10 in the all around and then probably peak moment is definitely becoming World Champion on the Parallel Bar, so yeah, it’s been an incredible year and looking forward to next.
HOW ARE PREPARATIONS GOING FOR THE WORLD CUP?
GIARNNI: Yeah, at the minute I’m still ticking over with my combinations, I’m not on routines just yet. But yeah, I’m ready for a big year and I’m excited.
JOE: Me and my coach have sat down and discussed the different routes we want to go down and the areas we think we can improve on. Looking back at this year, so we know the direction we want the routes go in moving into the Olympic and World Cup year!
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT COMPETING IN YOUR HOMETOWN (JOE)?
JOE: I honestly can’t wait, having done the Birmingham World Cup this year it was an amazing opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd, I’ve done it before. I’m just looking forward to it, having friends and family come down will be awesome
WHY SHOULD PEOPLE COME AND WATCH GYMNASTICS LIVE?
GIARNNI: Because gymnastics is not only one of the hardest sports in the world, it’s the most exciting sports in the world. Even I when I watch gymnastics, I know that I’m a gymnast, so maybe I’m a bit biased, but the excitement and the thrill that it brings to people – are they going to hit the routine? Are they going to fall off?
JOE: Because gymnastics is the best sport in the world and that’s why everyone should go and watch it, get involved and enjoy it!
Part of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) World Cup Series, watch as 12 male gymnasts go for glory. Who will show flair and stamina on the pommel horse and floor, demonstrate extreme strength on the rings, and pull off strong routines on the vault, parallel bars and high bar? Our 12 female gymnasts will wow the crowds with grace and composure on the beam as well as unleashing power yet control on the vault and uneven bars.
With the all-around champion of each session taking the maximum Olympic qualification points home for their country, the pressure will be on to perform perfect routines.
The atmosphere will be electric. The competition will be tough. Make sure you’re part of this historic event.
